MOSCOW, Feb 6 (Reuters) - Russia's Foreign Ministry, asked about U.S. President Donald Trump's recent comments about a takeover plan for the Gaza Strip, said it regarded any populist comments as counter-productive and as further ramping up tensions.
Trump said earlier on Thursday that Israel would hand over Gaza to the United States after fighting was over and the enclave's population was already resettled elsewhere, which he said meant no U.S. troops would be needed on the ground.
Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry, said the situation in Gaza had gone from being a tragedy to a catastrophe.
