PARIS, Feb 3 (Reuters) - Newly appointed Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever, at his first summit of European leaders, said that it would be an error to think that Europe could defend itself alone, and that Europe needs to continue the NATO alliance with the U.S.
He also vowed that his new government would boost defence spending. "We hope to get military spending to 2% of GDP, discussions about a higher target are for later," he told reporters ahead of an informal EU leaders' meeting in Brussels.
