WASHINGTON, Feb 2 (Reuters) - Tariffs announced by the United States violate the obligations of its free trade agreement with Canada and Canada will pursue legal recourse, a senior government official said Sunday.
The official, who asked not to be identified, added that retaliatory tariffs announced by Canada will have an economic impact, and the Canadian government is preparing countermeasures to blunt that impact. The Canadian government remains in regular contact with U.S. officials across all levels of government, the official added.
