White House: food stamps and welfare benefits exempt from pause on federal assistance

WASHINGTON, Jan 28 (Reuters) - The White House said on Tuesday that food stamps and welfare benefits will not be affected by President Donald Trump's pause on grant, loan and other financial assistance programs, but declined to say whether Medicaid and other programs would be impacted.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters at a briefing the funding pause was temporary in nature and said the administration would provide a list of affected programs later.
