UIB aviation MD Taffs to join LSM

Jan 27 - (The Insurer) - United Insurance Brokers (UIB) aviation specialist Miles Taffs is set to join Liberty Specialty Markets (LSM) at the end of the first quarter, The Insurer can reveal.

Sources said Taffs will join the carrier as an underwriting specialist.

It is understood he has been hired on a temporary contract, although this publication could not confirm its exact length prior to publication.

Taffs’ exit from UIB was confirmed in an announcement earlier this week, with Marek Ambrozewski succeeding him as managing director of the broker’s aviation division.

Taffs spent five years at UIB, including four years as managing director for aviation.

He joined UIB after almost two decades at MS Amlin, latterly as head of marine and aviation and joint active underwriter for Syndicate 2001.

His previous roles at Amlin included deputy head of marine and aviation, as well as head of aviation.

Taffs’ arrival will bolster the leadership of LSM’s aviation division, which has seen some exits over the last 18 months.

In December 2023, aviation underwriting veteran Bill Halligan departed LSM to join Convex as a senior underwriter. His exit was followed in July 2024 by The Insurer’s reveal that Daniel Fulco, LSM’s head of underwriting for aviation, had resigned to join Lancashire.

LSM declined to comment. UIB was approached for comment.
