CHICAGO, April 6 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans delivered to U.S. Midwest processing plants were mostly steady to higher on Monday as crushers sought fresh supplies amid strong processing margins, dealers said.
Soybean bids at interior elevators were mostly unchanged, while basis values at barge-loading river elevators were mostly flat to lower.
A large soy processor in Lafayette, Indiana, raised its spot basis bid by 10 cents a bushel on Monday. But spot bids at a Bettendorf, Iowa, river terminal on the Mississippi River fell by 10 cents a bushel.
Corn basis bids at ethanol plants and other processing facilities were mostly steady to higher, while basis values at river elevators were flat to lower.
A Union City, Indiana, ethanol maker lifted its spot basis by 5 cents a bushel. A Bettendorf, Iowa, river terminal cut its spot basis by 12 cents.
Farmers have been focusing on field work ahead of the Midwest spring planting season instead of on selling crops. Prices offered to farmers have fallen from March highs and farmers are waiting for prices to recover, dealers said.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture is scheduled to resume regular weekly U.S. crop progress and condition reports on Monday.
