CBOT wheat climbs as dry weather forecast for Southern Plains

ReutersMar 18, 2026 7:06 PM

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures jumped on Wednesday on concerns about dry weather in the U.S. Southern Plains, analysts said.

  • Weather forecaster Vaisala said ongoing dry weather in the central and southern Plains would maintain low moisture for winter wheat over the next 30 to 60 days.

  • In an annual farmer survey, commodity brokerage Allendale Inc projected all U.S. wheat plantings at 44.877 million acres in 2026, down from 45.3 million last year.

  • Euronext wheat rose on Wednesday, recovering from a two-day fall in step with Chicago futures as the targeting of energy sites in the Gulf increased investor worries about inflation resulting from the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran.

  • CBOT May soft red winter wheat WK26 ended 14-1/2 cents higher at $6.04-1/4 per bushel.

  • K.C. May hard red winter wheat KWK26 settled up 19-1/4 cents at $6.26 per bushel.

  • Minneapolis May spring wheat MWEK26 rose 13 cents to finish at $6.37-1/4 per bushel.
