ROME, March 11 (Reuters) - Italy is considering cutting excise duties to soften fuel prices and is ready to hike taxes on firms responsible for taking undue benefits from the energy crisis, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said on Wednesday.
"We will do everything we can to prevent speculation on the crisis, including, if necessary, recovering profits stemming from speculation through higher taxation of the companies responsible for it," Meloni told the Italian Senate.
