LONDON, March 2 (Reuters) - U.S. flagged products tanker Stena Imperative was hit by two unknown projectiles in the port of Bahrain early on Monday causing a fire on board, which was extinguished, two maritime security sources said.
The vessel was struck at 0257 GMT and it remains in the port, British maritime risk management company Vanguard added.
"All crew members are safe and have evacuated the vessel," Vanguard said.
It is the first known U.S.-flagged vessel to be damaged since U.S. and Israeli airstrikes began on Iran on Saturday, prompting heavy retaliatory attacks by Tehran on Gulf countries and Israel.
The vessel’s owner, Stena Bulk, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The Stena Imperative last reported its position on February 28 when the U.S.-led attacks on Iran began, LSEG shipping data showed.
