CBOT soybeans retreat as Brazilian harvest expands; USDA data awaited

ReutersFeb 9, 2026 8:45 PM

- Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures ended lower on Monday, pressured by the expanding harvest of a massive crop in Brazil and profit-taking after a rally last week drove prices to two-month highs above $11 a bushel, traders said.

  • CBOT March soybeans SH26 settled down 4-1/2 cents at $11.10-3/4 per bushel.

  • CBOT March soymeal SMH26 ended down $5.80 at $297.80 per short ton.

  • CBOT soyoil futures bucked the lower trend, rising more than 2% after the U.S. and India released an interim framework for a trade deal that would include lower barriers to Indian imports of U.S. soyoil.

  • CBOT March soyoil BOH26 settled up 1.36 cents, or 2.46%, at 56.69 cents per pound, and all deferred soyoil futures contracts 0#BO: set life-of-contract highs.

  • Soybean futures had climbed last week after U.S. President Donald Trump said China was considering booking significant additional U.S. soybean purchases. But dealers remain skeptical as higher prices would make such purchases uneconomical.

  • Traders shrugged off news from the USDA on Monday confirming private sales of 264,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to China.

  • In Brazil, farmers had harvested 16% of the soybean crop by Thursday, agribusiness consultancy AgRural said on Monday, compared to 15% a year ago.

  • Ahead of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's monthly world supply-demand report on Tuesday, analysts surveyed by Reuters on average expected the agency to raise its estimate of Brazil's soybean harvest to 179.4 million metric tons, from its previous forecast of 178 million, already an all-time high.

  • Brazilian crop supply agency Conab is scheduled to release its own production estimates on Thursday.

  • The USDA reported export inspections of U.S. soybeans in the latest week at 1,136,099 metric tons, in line with trade expectations for 800,000 to 1,650,000 tons. USDA/I
