Feb 7 (Reuters) - India’s trade minister said on Saturday there is no provision allowing imports of genetically modified (GM) agricultural products under the India–U.S. trade pact, addressing concerns from farm groups about market access and food standards under the agreement.
The United States and India moved closer to a trade pact on Friday, releasing an interim framework that would lower tariffs, reshape energy ties and deepen economic cooperation as both countries seek to realign global supply chains.
Piyush Goyal said the pact provides zero-tariff access to the U.S. market for certain Indian farm products, including bananas and mangoes, as part of agreed agricultural trade concessions.
