- French oil major TotalEnergies has signed two deals to supply Airbus AIR.PA with 3.3 terawatt-hours of electricity for its German and British sites, an amount the companies said would cover about half the sites' power needs for the next decade.

Germany and Britain are key growth markets for Total, which is focusing its integrated power business on deregulated markets where it can build and own renewable assets and then sell the electricity directly to its clients.

It has developed a strategy of also owning lucrative gas-fired power plants and signing supply deals that offer continuous power, sourced from both gas and renewable assets.

"These contracts, which rely on our integrated power portfolio combining both renewable and flexible assets, will contribute positively to the profitability of our electricity business," Stephane Michel, Total's president of gas, renewables and power, said in a statement.

A portion of the power supplied to Airbus will come from new renewable assets with a capacity of 200 megawatts, Total said. It will begin supplying the sites from next year.

"These agreements will help Airbus secure reliable low-carbon energy, supporting our goal to increase renewable electricity across our sites," said Florent Massou dit Labaquere, Airbus executive vice president for commercial aircraft operations.

Total already supplies Airbus with sustainable aviation fuel.
