US Cash Grains-Soy basis steady to firmer as grain movement lags

ReutersJan 27, 2026 11:35 PM

- Spot basis bids for soybeans were steady to firmer in the U.S. Midwest on Tuesday, reflecting demand from grain handlers as wintry weather continued to slow deliveries in some areas following a massive weekend storm and lackluster prices kept farmer selling to a minimum, dealers said.

  • The soybean basis improved by 10 cents a bushel at a Chicago elevator and by 2 cents at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, facility.

  • The corn basis fell by 5 cents at a separate Chicago terminal. Basis bids were unchanged elsewhere, spot checks showed.

  • The basis for both crops held steady at river elevators despite rising costs for barge freight. Ice has slowed barge traffic across the Midwest river system. BG/US

  • U.S. President Donald Trump rallied supporters in Iowa on Tuesday, with farmers and traders awaiting insight on his administration's policies on biofuels and trade with China, among other issues.

  • Trump said lawmakers were working on a deal to allow year-round sales of higher-ethanol E15 gasoline blends, although an attempt to pass such legislation in a funding bill last week fell through.

  • Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures crept higher on Tuesday, corn ended slightly lower and wheat finished nearly unchanged as a sliding dollar underpinned prices. GRA/
