CBOT wheat settles up on a falling dollar, weather worries

ReutersJan 22, 2026 8:19 PM

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures closed higher on a weaker U.S. dollar on Thursday, as well as weather concerns in growing regions.

  • CBOT March soft red winter wheat WH26 settled up 7-3/4 cents at $5.15-1/2 per bushel.

  • K.C. March hard red winter wheat KWH26 ended up 6 cents at $5.25-3/4 a bushel and Minneapolis March spring wheat MWEH26 rose 10 cents to finish at $5.73-3/4 a bushel.

  • A lower dollar in theory makes U.S. exports cheaper and more competitive on the U.S. market.

  • A winter storm is forecast to bring beneficial moisture to the southern Plains starting on Friday but frigid temperatures in its wake could threaten winter wheat in areas lacking protective snow cover.

  • Managed commodity funds hold a sizable net short position in CBOT wheat futures, leaving the market open to bouts of short-covering.
