US DOJ files complaint about California rule for buffer zones between energy operations and community spaces

WASHINGTON, Jan 14 (Reuters) - The U.S. Justice Department said on Wednesday it filed a court complaint against a California state regulation that called for establishing buffer zones between oil and gas operations and community spaces.

"SB 1137 would knock out about one-third of all federally authorized oil and gas leases in California," the Justice Department said in a statement.
