US Plains HRW Wheat-Basis remains stable, traders eye US weather

ReutersJan 13, 2026 9:09 PM

- Basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were steady to lower on Tuesday at grain elevators in the southern U.S. Plains, dealers said.

  • Traders kept an eye on unfavorable dry weather in the region.

  • A drier pattern was expected over the next 10 days in the Plains, Commodity Weather Group said.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday said U.S. farmers planted less winter wheat for harvest in 2026 than in 2025, though the agency's estimate was above analysts' expectations.

  • HRW wheat plantings were little changed from the previous year, according to the USDA.

  • K.C. March HRW wheat futures KWH26 closed down 7-1/4 cents at $5.19-1/2 per bushel and hit a one-week low.
