CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Soybean, corn barge basis were steady to higher in nearby loadings

CHICAGO, Jan 2 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn and soybeans shipped by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals were steady to higher on Friday, traders said.

• Empty barge freight values remained elevated, with prices firming again on the Illinois River. Barge lines are already limiting drafts in some areas. BG/US

• Exporters sold 132,000 metric tons of U.S. corn to South Korea for delivery in the 2025/2026 marketing year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on Friday.

• Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures ticked down on light post-holiday trading volume on Friday, as competitively priced Brazilian beans and favorable South American weather pressured the commodity, analysts said.

• CIF bids for Gulf soybean barges loaded in January traded at 102 cents over CBOT January soybean SF26 futures.

• CIF bids for Gulf soybean barges loaded in December were up 3 cents at 96 cents a bushel over CBOT January soybean SF26 futures. CIF bids for January loadings firmed 5 cents at 100 cents over futures.

• FOB offers for vessels loaded from the Gulf in January were steady at about 108 cents over CBOT January futures, and offers for February shipments were steady at around 110 cents over March SH26 futures.

• For corn, CIF Gulf December barges were steady at 79 cents over CBOT March corn CH26 futures, while January bids firmed 1 cent at 82 cents over futures.

• FOB export premiums for January corn shipments were steady at around 106 cents over March futures, dealers said.

• U.S. grain markets were closed Thursday for the New Year's Day holiday.
