US Plains HRW Wheat-Basis flat in quiet holiday trade

ReutersDec 30, 2025 11:05 PM

- Basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were unchanged in the southern U.S. Plains on Tuesday and protein premiums for railcar wheat to or through Kansas City held steady ahead of the New Year's Day holiday, spot checks showed.

  • Growers were monitoring dry conditions in the region as temperatures warmed following a cold spell.

  • "Although most of the Plains’ winter wheat lacks a protective snow cover, any crop concerns at this point in the season are mainly limited to patchy drought," the U.S. Department of Agriculture said in a daily weather note.

  • U.S. markets and most government offices will be closed on Thursday, January 1.

  • K.C. hard red winter wheat futures declined on Tuesday for a third straight session, discouraging farmer grain sales. K.C. March wheat KWH26 settled down 5-1/4 cents at $5.22 a bushel. GRA/
