CBOT wheat falls as traders assess peace negotiations

ReutersDec 29, 2025 7:50 PM

- Chicago Board of Trade wheat futures sagged on Monday after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met with U.S. President Donald Trump over the weekend, continuing talks on ending the war in Ukraine.

  • There were positive signals from talks between Trump and Zelenskiy, and a peace deal would potentially make exports cheaper from the key Black Sea exporting region in Russia and Ukraine. GRA/

  • But those signals could be undermined by Russian claims on Monday that Ukraine had tried to attack Russian President Vladimir Putin's residence in northern Russia. Ukraine called the accusation a lie meant to undermine peace talks.

  • Ample global grain supplies add to bearish sentiment. Argentine farmers are wrapping up the harvest of a bumper wheat crop.

  • CBOT March soft red winter wheat WH26 settled 6 cents lower at $5.13 per bushel.

  • K.C. March hard red winter wheat KWH26 ended 6-1/4 cents lower at $5.27-1/4 a bushel.

  • Minneapolis March spring wheat MWEH26 settled flat at $5.79-1/4 per bushel.
