US Plains HRW Wheat-Basis bids steady with quiet pre-holiday trade

CHICAGO, Dec 22 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat stayed flat at elevators in the southern U.S. Plains on Monday, according to dealers.

• Dealers said trade was limited ahead of the Christmas holiday.

• Dry weather was expected in the Southern Plains with showers providing some patches of relief.

• Warm temperatures are expected to reduce the risk for winterkill for crops, while continued drier weather would maintain low moisture for winter wheat, according to forecaster Vaisala.

• Protein premiums rose by 3 cents for wheat with 12.0% to 12.2% protein and were unchanged for all other grades on Monday. KCBT/SCA

• K.C. March hard red winter wheat futures KWH26 were up 6 cents at $5.21-1/4 a bushel.
