JOHANNESBURG, Dec 10 (Reuters) - South Africa is committed to ensuring that it is included in any extension of U.S. trade initiative the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), a trade ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
"We continue to lobby for an extension of the U.S. trade initiative in its current form," Kaamil Alli, spokesperson for Trade Minister Parks Tau, told Reuters in response to comments by U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Tuesday.
Greer told a Senate Appropriations subcommittee hearing that the Trump administration was open to a one-year extension of AGOA but viewed South Africa as a unique case and could consider excluding it if Congress pushed for that outcome.
