CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Soybean barge bids stay largely flat amid lack of news on Chinese buying

CHICAGO, Dec 1 (Reuters) - Basis bids for soybeans shipped by barge to the U.S. Gulf Coast were largely steady on Monday amid a dearth of fresh news about Chinese purchases, traders said.

• The U.S. Department of Agriculture did not confirm U.S. sales to China in its daily reporting system, after reporting on Friday that exporters had sold 312,000 metric tons of U.S. soybeans to China.

• Traders have been closely watching Chinese demand since the nations' agreed to a trade truce in late October.

• Demand was also limited from other importers amid competition for global sales from rival Brazil, traders said.

• Brazil's soybean production is expected to reach a record 177.2 million metric tons in 2025/26, consultancy StoneX said, cutting its outlook by 0.9% from a November projection.

• Consultancy Patria Agronegocios estimated Brazilian farmers will harvest 171.89 million metric tons, while AgRural said soybean planting reached 89% of the expected area as of last Thursday.

• Basis values for CIF Gulf December soybean barge shipments were down 1 cent at around 72 cents over Chicago Board of Trade January SF26 futures. January barge bids were flat at 83 cents over futures.

• FOB export premiums for soybeans loaded in December and January were unchanged at about 103 cents over CBOT January futures.

• CBOT soybean and corn futures finished lower.GRA/

• Corn barges loaded at the Gulf in December were bid at 84 cents a bushel over CBOT December CZ25 futures, up 2 cents.

• FOB export premiums for December corn shipments were steady at around 105 cents over futures.
