SOFTS-Robusta coffee edges up as another storm approaches Vietnam; cocoa extends rebound

ReutersNov 27, 2025 12:33 PM

- Robusta coffee futures on the ICE exchange edged up on Thursday with another storm set to hit top grower Vietnam early next week, while London cocoa extended its rebound.

There was no trading in ICE raw sugar, New York cocoa or arabica coffee futures due to the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday.

COFFEE

Robusta coffee LRCc1 edged up 0.2% to $4,523 a metric ton by 1204 GMT.

The contract gained 6.4% last week and has largely steadied this week.

Dealers noted that the harvest in Vietnam remains delayed after heavy rains, floods and landslides, while quality concerns prevail just as another storm looms.

While Storm Koto is not expected to directly impact the coffee belt, dealers said it means more rainfall on already saturated soils, raising the risk of further quality concerns and more harvest delays.

COCOA

London cocoa LCCc2 rose 1.4% to 3,845 pounds per metric ton by 1215 GMT. Prices had fallen to 3,773 pounds on Tuesday for their lowest in nearly two years.

Cocoa traders are increasingly nervous given the funds' growing short position in what is a technically oversold market, dealers said. Short positions are essentially bets on price falls.

The chocolate ingredient has been under pressure overall thanks to increased port arrivals in top grower Ivory Coast, and widespread surplus expectations for this season.

Ecuador is expected to export more than 623,000 tons of cocoa in 2026, meaning it will surpass Ghana to become the world's second-largest cocoa producer, the National Cocoa Exporters Association, Anecacao, said.

SUGAR

White sugar LSUc1 rose 0.6% to $436 a ton, heading for weekly gains of nearly 3%.

Broker StoneX has cut its projection for top producer Brazil's sugar output next year.

Sugar production in Brazil's Centre-South is expected to have risen 18.9% year-on-year in the first half of November, according to an S&P Global Commodity Insights survey.
