CHICAGO, Nov 11 (Reuters) - Spot corn basis bids were steady to higher at U.S. Midwest ethanol plants and river elevators on Tuesday as grain buyers sought fresh supplies following a slowdown in farmer selling, while bids at elevators and other processors held steady, brokers said.
Spot soybean basis bids were mostly unchanged at interior elevators and processors around the region, and mostly steady to firm at barge-loading river terminals.
The spot corn basis rose by 5 cents a bushel at an ethanol plant in Linden, Indiana, and by 2 cents at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, facility. Robust demand for corn to produce the biofuel has lifted bids at several locations in the past week.
Soybean basis bids at river elevators have increased since a US-China trade agreement at the end of October that produced a vow from China, according to the White House, to resume purchases of US soy. Exporters scrambled to secure supplies, although large purchases by China have not materialized yet.
The US corn and soybean harvests are nearly complete and many farmers are storing supplies while they wait for better prices.
Some growers are also delaying making further marketing decisions until after Friday's U.S. Department of Agriculture supply-and-demand data. The report will provide the government's updated assessment of the U.S. harvest for the first time since early September. Its October report was canceled due to a government shutdown.
