CHICAGO, Nov 10 (Reuters) - Spot corn basis bids were steady to higher at U.S. Midwest ethanol plants and processing facilities on Monday after a drop in futures prices late last week slowed farmer sales, brokers said.
Spot soybean basis bids were mostly unchanged at elevators and processors around the region, capped by rising futures values.
The spot corn basis rose by 5 cents a bushel at a processing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and by 7 cents at a facility in Blair, Nebraska. In the eastern Midwest, an ethanol plant in Annawan, Illinois, lifted its spot basis by 5 cents while one in Union City, Indiana, raised its spot bid by 10 cents.
The corn and soybean harvests are nearly finished and many growers have been storing away supplies and waiting for higher bids. Cash prices would need to top recent highs to spark a fresh round of farmer selling before the end of the year.
Some growers are also delaying making further marketing decisions until after Friday's U.S. Department of Agriculture supply-and-demand data. The report will provide the government's updated assessment of the U.S. harvest for the first time since early September. Its October report was canceled due to a government shutdown.
