CBOT Trends-Wheat down 7-9 cents, corn down 2-3 cents, soy down 11-13 cents

- Following are U.S. expectations for the resumption of grain and soy complex trading at the Chicago Board of Trade at 8:30 a.m. CST (1430 GMT) on Thursday.

NOTE: The U.S. government remains shut down, suspending many government reports.

WHEAT - Down 7 to 9 cents

  • Wheat futures backpedaled after the most-active contract Wv1 on Wednesday reached its highest level since July amid talk about China buying U.S. supplies.

  • On Thursday, traders confirmed China booked around 120,000 metric tons for December shipment, including one cargo of U.S. soft white wheat and one of U.S. spring wheat, the sources said.

  • The volume was smaller than what some traders anticipated.

  • CBOT December soft red winter wheat WZ25 was last 8-1/2 cents lower at $5.46-1/4 per bushel. K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 was last down 8 cents at $5.32 a bushel. Minneapolis December wheat MWEZ25 was last down 2 cents at $5.54-1/4 per bushel.

CORN - Down 2 to 3 cents

  • CBOT corn Cv1 fell along with wheat and soy futures.

  • A shipment of sorghum was sent from the United States to China following the recent meeting between the countries' leaders, according to the chairman of the U.S. Grains and BioProducts Council.

  • Germany's 2025 corn harvest will fall 3.5% on the year, Germany's association of farm cooperatives said.

  • CBOT December corn CZ25 was last down 2-1/4 cents at $4.33 per bushel.

SOYBEANS - Down 11 to 13 cents

  • Soybean futures Sv1 pulled back from a June 2024 high reached on Wednesday, as traders awaited confirmation of Chinese purchases.

  • China began modest purchases of U.S. farm products after the leaders of both countries met last week, but traders still await significant soybean buys after the White House said Beijing pledged to buy 12 million tons by year-end.

  • Shipments of U.S. soybeans to China still face a 13% tariff.

  • China's state-owned COFCO held a soybean procurement signing ceremony on Thursday morning, the head of a Chinese agriculture business association said.

  • CBOT January soybeans SF26 were last down 11-1/2 cents at$11.22-3/4 per bushel.
