CBOT Trends-Wheat up 6-7 cents, corn up 1-2, soy up 10-11

- Following are U.S. expectations for the resumption of grain and soy complex trading at the Chicago Board of Trade at 8:30 a.m. CDT (1330 GMT) on Tuesday.

NOTE: The U.S. government remains shut down, suspending many government reports.

WHEAT - Up 6 to 7 cents per bushel

  • CBOT wheat up on market optimism over upcoming trade talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

  • Trump said on Monday the U.S. and China were set to "come away with" a trade deal, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent told NBC on Sunday that China would make "substantial" soybean purchases under a proposed framework.

  • Across most of the European Union, winter crop sowing is progressing well, although delays are reported in parts of southeastern Europe due to adverse weather, crop monitoring service MARS said on Monday.

  • CBOT December soft red winter wheat WZ25 was last up 5-3/4 cents at $5.31-3/4 per bushel. K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 was up 5-3/4 cents at $5.20 a bushel. Minneapolis December wheat MWEZ25 last traded up 5-1/4 cents at $5.65-1/2 per bushel.

CORN - Up 1 to 2 cents per bushel

  • Corn futures also rose on support from broader market optimism.

  • The U.S. corn harvest was 72% finished, according to a Reuters poll of 10 analysts on Monday.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture normally publishes a weekly crop progress report each Monday afternoon from April through November. But due to the ongoing government shutdown, the agency has not released a crop progress report since September 29.

  • CBOT December corn CZ25 was last up 2-3/4 cents at $4.31-1/2 per bushel.

SOYBEANS - Up 10 to 11 cents per bushel

  • Soybean futures touched a more than 15-month high, driven by prolonged optimism that the U.S. could reach a trade deal with China as leaders from both countries are expected to meet in South Korea on Thursday.

  • The U.S. soybean harvest was 84% complete as of Sunday, analysts predicted.

  • CBOT November soybeans SX25 were last up 10 cents at $10.77-1/4 per bushel.
