US Cash Grains-Corn basis mixed; CBOT rally spurs farmer selling

ReutersOct 27, 2025 11:00 PM

- Basis bids for corn were mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Monday and the soybean basis was mostly flat, while farmer sales picked up as Chicago Board of Trade corn and soy futures hit their highest levels in months on hopes for a U.S.-China trade deal, brokers said. GRA/

  • CBOT grain and soy futures surged after U.S. President Donald Trump said the U.S. and China were set to "come away with" a trade deal. Trump is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week in South Korea during his Asia tour.

  • The U.S. soybean harvest was 84% complete as of Sunday and the corn harvest was 72% finished, according to a Reuters poll of 10 analysts on Monday.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture normally publishes a weekly crop progress report each Monday afternoon from April through November. But due to the ongoing government shutdown, the agency has not released a crop progress report since September 29.

  • CBOT December corn CZ25 ended up 5-1/2 cents at $4.28-3/4 per bushel after reaching $4.31-3/4, the contract's highest since July 3.

  • CBOT November soybeans SX25 settled up 25-1/2 cents at $10.67-1/4 per bushel after hitting $10.72-3/4, the highest since June 20.
