Trump to ramp up actions if shutdown continues after weekend, White House adviser says

WASHINGTON, Oct 17 (Reuters) - White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Friday that President Donald Trump can be expected to ramp up actions if the U.S. federal government shutdown continues after this weekend.

Hassett did not say what actions the Republican president might take if lawmakers do not reach an agreement.

The White House said last week that it had begun layoffs across the U.S. government, as Trump followed through on a threat to cut the federal workforce during the government shutdown, which is now in its 17th day.
