CHICAGO, Oct 15 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn and soybeans were mostly steady to firmer at processing sites in the U.S. Midwest on Wednesday as the harvest of both crops progressed despite light scattered rain delays, spot checks showed.
The soybean basis improved by a nickel a bushel at Decatur, Illinois, a grain processing hub. The basis was steady at other Midwest soy crushing facilities after firming at numerous locations over the last week.
Monthly crushing data reflected an active U.S. soybean crushing pace in September. The National Oilseed Processors Association said its members crushed 197.863 million bushels of soybeans last month, up 4.2% from August and the fourth-highest level for any month on record.
Analysts surveyed by Reuters on average had expected the September crush to dip to 186.340 million bushels.
For corn, the basis strengthened by 8 cents a bushel at an ethanol facility in Annawan, Illinois, and by 5 cents at Blair, Nebraska, site of a large corn processing plant.
On the Chicago Board of Trade at mid-session, November soybean futures SX25 were up 3-1/4 cents at $10.09-3/4 per bushel and December corn CZ25 was last up 4-1/4 cents at $4.17-1/4 a bushel.
