CHICAGO, Oct 13 (Reuters) - Basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat were unchanged at elevators in the southern U.S. Plains on Monday, but protein premiums firmed for a few grades, reflecting demand from domestic flour mills while farmer selling remained minimal, grain dealers said.
Protein premiums for railcar HRW wheat to and through Kansas City rose by 5 cents a bushel for "ordinary" wheat with less than 11.0% protein and by 5 cents for wheat with 11.0% through 11.80% protein. Premiums for higher grades of wheat were unchanged. KCBT/SCA
K.C. hard red wheat futures 0#KW: and CBOT soft wheat futures 0#W: fell to fresh contract lows on Monday, pressured by ample global grain supplies and stiff competition for export business. GRA/
K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 futures settled down 1-3/4 cents at $4.81-1/4 per bushel after hitting a contract low at $4.79-1/2.
Plains farmers remain busy with harvesting corn, soybeans and sorghum while planting the 2026 winter wheat crop.
However, rains slowed fieldwork on Monday in central Kansas and Oklahoma.
