CHICAGO, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat held steady at elevators in the southern U.S. Plains on Friday after firming at a few locations a day earlier, as sagging futures prices and ongoing fieldwork continued to discourage farmer selling, dealers said.
Protein premiums for railcar HRW wheat to and through Kansas City rose by 5 cents a bushel for "ordinary" wheat with less than 11.0% protein, by 9 cents for wheat with 11.0% protein, and by 3 cents for wheat with 11.2% through 11.8% protein. Premiums for higher grades of wheat were unchanged. KCBT/SCA
An uptick in premiums this week reflected demand for certain wheat grades from domestic flour millers at a time when farmers were reluctant sellers.
K.C. hard red wheat futures 0#KW: and CBOT soft wheat futures 0#W: set contract lows across the board, pressured by ample global grain supplies and a selloff in CBOT soybeans tied to escalating U.S.-China trade tensions. GRA/
K.C. December hard red winter wheat KWZ25 futures settled down 6-3/4 cents at $4.83 per bushel after posting a contract low at $4.80-3/4.
Plains farmers remain busy with harvesting corn, soybeans and sorghum while planting the 2026 winter wheat crop.
