US Cash Grains-Corn basis steady-weak at ethanol plants

ReutersOct 10, 2025 5:33 PM

- Basis bids for corn were mostly steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Friday, spot checks showed, as harvesting continued in the region amid generally favorable weather, keeping elevators and processors adequately supplied with grain.

  • Basis bids at ethanol facilities had a weaker tone. The basis fell by 5 cents a bushel at a Union, City, Indiana, ethanol plant and by 3 cents at a Linden, Indiana, facility.

  • The corn basis fell by 2 cents at Seneca, Illinois, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment on the Illinois River toward export terminals at the U.S. Gulf.

  • Soybean basis bids were mostly steady to firmer after strengthening at numerous soy crushing plants this week. The basis firmed by 5 cents at a Lafayette, Indiana, crushing site and at a Cincinnati, Ohio, terminal elevator.

  • The bean basis fell by 4 cents at Davenport, Iowa, on the Mississippi River, but was still up 20 cents since the start of the week.

  • Forecasts called for mostly dry weather in the crop belt through early next week, weather forecaster Vaisala said.

  • Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures sank by midsession Friday as trade restrictions announced by China and escalating rhetoric from U.S. President Donald Trump cooled hopes of a resolution to a standoff between Washington and Beijing that has halted Chinese purchases of U.S. soybeans. GRA/

  • At mid-session, CBOT November soybean futures SX25 were down 17-1/4 cents at $10.05 per bushel and December corn CZ25 was down 5-1/4 cents at $4.13 a bushel.
