CHICAGO, Oct 6 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were mixed in the U.S. Midwest on Monday, with some processors sweetening their bids to attract farmer grain sales despite a busy harvest weekend across most of the region, spot checks showed.
The corn basis fell by 6 cents at a processor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and by 5 cents at an Illinois ethanol plant as the harvest expanded.
But the basis firmed by 5 cents at a Linden, Indiana, ethanol site and by 3 cents at an elevator in Cincinnati, Ohio.
The soybean basis was steady to weaker among soy processors, with the basis falling by a nickel at a Council Bluffs, Iowa, crusher.
But the bean basis improved by 2 cents at Davenport, Iowa, where grain is loaded onto barges for shipment on the Mississippi River toward exporters at the U.S. Gulf.
The U.S. government remains shut down, suspending many government reports, including the U.S. Department of Agriculture's weekly crop progress report that normally runs on Mondays.
U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has said an announcement would be made this Tuesday about government support for American farmers affected by the lack of purchases by China, by far the world's biggest soybean importer.
At mid-session, Chicago Board of Trade December corn futures CZ25 were up 1/4 cent at $4.19-1/4 per bushel and November soybean futures SX25 were down 1-1/4 cents at $10.16-3/4 a bushel. GRA/
