MOSCOW, Oct 1 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Wednesday that it was foolish for Ukraine to accuse Russia of shelling the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine given that Moscow controls the facility.
The vast Soviet-built plant is being cooled by emergency diesel generators for a ninth day after an external power line was severed.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Russia was doing everything to ensure the plant's safety, which he said had come under repeated fire from Ukrainian forces. Kyiv in turn accuses Russian forces of shelling.
Russia has controlled the plant, Europe's largest, since the early days of its military campaign in Ukraine. It remains close to the frontlines between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
