FRANKFURT, Aug 21 (Reuters) - The European Union must swiftly launch legislation to cut tariffs on U.S. goods to make sure painful levies on autos imported to the world's top economy are being cut, Germany's auto industry association said on Thursday.
"In view of the many challenges facing the economy, it is imperative that the EU act swiftly in this regard. Companies urgently need clarity and planning security," its president Hildegard Mueller said.
The EU proposal would mean lowered U.S. car tariffs down to 15% retroactively from August 1, trade commissioner Maros Sefcovic said on Thursday.
