Aug 19 - (The Insurer) - Hurricane Erin is expected to substantially grow in size as it moves over the western Atlantic over the coming days, the National Hurricane Center has warned.
The storm is forecast to remain offshore on a track between the U.S. Atlantic coast and Bermuda, according to the NHC.
However, Erin’s expected track has shifted westwards, increasing the potential for some impacts along the U.S. coastline.
The NHC said it now expects tropical storm conditions close to the Mid-Atlantic and southern New England coast later this week.
As of 5 a.m. EDT (0900 GMT) on Tuesday, Erin was a Category 3 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of 115 mph (185 kph).
Erin, the fifth named storm of the 2025 Atlantic season and the first to attain hurricane status, previously reached Category 5 strength over the weekend. Prior to Erin, the last Atlantic storm to reach Category 5 intensity was Hurricane Milton in October last year.
