CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn barge bids firm, soybean bids turn lower

Basis bids for corn delivered by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals firmed on Wednesday, while soybean barge bids turned lower as cash prices eased in some markets, traders said.

• CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in August were offered at around 84 cents over Chicago Board of Trade September CU25 futures, up 4 cents from Tuesday's offers. Meanwhile September corn barges were bid at 96 cents over futures, up 5 cents.

• FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in September were up 2 cents at around 128 cents over September futures.

• For soybeans, CIF Gulf barges loaded in August were bid at 55 cents over CBOT November SX25 futures, down 6 cents from Tuesday. September loadings were bid at 57 cents over November futures.

• Meanwhile, soybean CIF Gulf barges loaded in September traded at 60 cents, 62 cents and 63 cents over November futures; and October soybean barges traded at 64 cents over November futures.

• FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped from the Gulf in the first-half of September were at around 102 cents over November SX25 futures, down 1 cent.

• Empty barge freight rates for later this month and into September ticked higher in several interior river spots, as brokers begin to prepare for the U.S. harvest this fall, trade sources said. BG/US

• U.S. soybean exporters risk missing out on billions of dollars' worth of sales to China this year as trade talks drag on and buyers in the top oilseed importer lock in cargoes from Brazil for shipment during the key U.S. marketing season, according to traders.
