CHICAGO, July 25 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn and soybeans were mostly steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Friday, softening at a few soy crushing and corn ethanol plants, spot checks showed.
The soybean basis fell by 5 cents a bushel at a crusher in Lafayette, Indiana, but bean bids held steady elsewhere.
The corn basis fell at Blair, Nebraska, site of a large corn processing plant, and at ethanol sites in Linden, Indiana, and Annawan, Illinois.
The corn basis weakened by a nickel at Toledo, Ohio, but firmed by 2 cents at Seneca, Illinois, where barges are loaded on the Illinois River for shipment toward Gulf export terminals.
Midwest weather this week featured above-normal temperatures and periodic showers that favored the western half of the crop belt. Warm nights have raised concern about crop stress for corn, but cooler temperatures were expected by the middle of next week, forecasters said.
Benign weather and strong U.S. crop prospects weighed on futures on the Chicago Board of Trade. As of 11:23 a.m. CDT (1623 GMT), CBOT September corn futures CU25 were down 3 cents at $3.98-3/4 a bushel and new-crop December corn CZ25 was down 2-1/2 cents at $4.18-1/4 a bushel. GRA/
CBOT August soybeans SQ25 were down 6-1/4 cents at $9.98 a bushel and the new-crop November contract SX25 was down 5 cents at $10.19-1/4.
