- The following are U.S. expectations for the resumption of grain and soy complex trading on Friday.

WHEAT - Down 3 to 4 cents per bushel

  • Wheat futures fell on expectations of ample global supplies as the Northern Hemisphere harvest progressed. However, the CBOT September contract WU25 stayed inside Thursday's trading range in early moves.

  • Farm office FranceAgriMer said French farmers had harvested 86% of the crop amid hot and dry weather, compared with 71% a week earlier and 59% on the five-year average.

  • Scouts on an annual North Dakota crop tour on Thursday projected hard red spring wheat yields in the top-producing state will average 49.0 bushels per acre, down from 54.5 bpa last year, but above the Wheat Quality Council tour's five-year average of 44.6 bpa.

  • CBOT September soft red winter wheat WU25 was last down 4 cents at $5.37-1/2 per bushel. K.C. September hard red winter wheat KWU25 was last down 3-1/2 cents at $5.25 per bushel. Minneapolis September wheat MWEU25 was last down 1/4 cent at $5.85-1/4 a bushel.

CORN - Down 2 to 3 cents per bushel

  • Corn futures were modestly weaker, pressured by forecasts for beneficial rains in the coming days and milder nighttime temperatures in early August. But the benchmark December corn contract CZ25 stayed inside Thursday's trading range as market players awaited fresh direction.

  • Brisk export demand underpinned the market.

  • The U.S. Department of Agriculture confirmed private sales of 140,000 metric tons of U.S. new-crop corn to South Korea and another 102,870 tons to Mexico.

  • China's agriculture ministry said high temperatures and drought may persist in some parts of the country and have adverse impacts on autumn grain production.

  • CBOT December corn CU25 was last down 2 cents at $4.18-3/4 per bushel.

SOYBEANS - Down 6 to 7 cents per bushel

  • Soybean futures headed lower on strong U.S. production prospects as non-threatening weather continued in the Midwest crop belt.

  • The USDA confirmed private sales of 142,500 metric tons of U.S. new-crop soybeans to Mexico.

  • CBOT November soybeans SX25 were last down 6-3/4 cents at $10.17-1/2 per bushel.
