CHICAGO, July 10 (Reuters) - Basis bids for soybeans delivered by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals firmed on Thursday, while export premiums rose from last week as a setback in Chicago Board of Trade futures prices this week slowed farmer grain sales, traders said.
CIF soybean barges loaded in July were bid at 87 cents over CBOT August SQ25 futures and August soy barges were bid at 89 cents over futures, both up 1 cent from Wednesday.
FOB export premiums for soybeans shipped from the Gulf in August were around 95 cents over August SQ25 futures, up 10 cents from last week.
For corn, CIF barges loaded in July were bid at 86 cents over CBOT September CU25 futures, down 2 cents from Wednesday, while August corn barges were bid at 85 cents over futures, down 3 cents.
FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in August were quoted at around 100 cents over September futures, up 6 cents.
Weekly export sales data was strong, particularly for corn. The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported export sales of U.S. old-crop corn in the week ended July 3 at 1,262,100 metric tons and sales of new-crop corn totaled 888,600 tons, both above trade expectations. EXP/CORN
Under its daily reporting rules, the USDA confirmed private sales of 110,000 tons of new-crop corn to undisclosed destinations.
Weekly U.S. soybean sales included 503,000 tons of old-crop and 248,400 tons of new-crop beans, the USDA said, in line with trade expectations. EXP/SOY
Weekly export sales of U.S. 2025/26 wheat totaled 567,800 tons, near the high-end of expectations. EXP/WHE
Market participants await the USDA's monthly supply/demand and crop production reports due on Friday. Analysts surveyed by Reuters on average expect the agency to lower its forecast of U.S. corn stocks left at the end of the 2025/26 marketing year due to brisk export demand.
Brazilian government crop supply agency Conab raised its monthly estimate of the country's total 2024/25 corn crop to 131.97 million metric tons, a new record, up 14% from a year earlier.
Conab estimated Brazil's 2024/25 soybean harvest at 169.5 million tons, down from 169.60 million last month.
