EUROPE GAS-Dutch and British gas prices steady with warmer weather expected

ReutersJul 9, 2025 8:43 AM

- Dutch and British wholesale gas prices traded in a narrow range on Wednesday morning amid expectations of warmer weather and stable supply.

The benchmark Dutch front-month contract at the TTF hub TRNLTTFMc1 was up 0.07 euro to 34.65 euros per megawatt hour (MWh), or $11.92/mmBtu, by 0818 GMT, LSEG data showed.

The Dutch day-ahead contract TRNLTTFD1 was down 0.17 euro at 34.17 euros/MWh.

The British day-ahead contract TRGBNBPD1 was up 0.25 pence at 82.50 p/therm.

“We expect TTF day-ahead prices to stay within their recent range with no significant deviation based on current fundamentals,” LSEG analyst Wayne Bryan said in a daily research note.

LSEG forecast local distribution zone demand to average 1,320 gigawatt hours/day from Saturday through July 21, around 30% lower than the current 7-day average as warmer temperatures curb gas use.

Total Norwegian export nominations are stable at 321 million cubic metres per day LSEG data showed.

“Next week will be generally quite warm with near or above normal temperatures,” LSEG meteorologist Georg Müller said.

Analysts said the market will be watching for any further news from the U.S. on trade tariffs.

“Whilst the last few sessions have been somewhat muted, revised concerns around U.S. trade tariffs have hit the headlines once again,” consultancy Auxilione said in a daily market update.

The European Parliament on Tuesday gave its final sign-off on a deal to loosen the EU's rules on filling gas storage, following concerns that earlier rules on this risked inflating energy prices.

While the 90% filling target remains, member states will now be allowed to meet this between October and December, rather than by the previous November 1.

In the European carbon market, the benchmark contract CFI2Zc1 was up 0.17 euro at 70.62 euros a metric ton.
