CIF/FOB Gulf Grain-Corn barge bids mixed, soy bids steady-firmer

CHICAGO, May 16 (Reuters) - Basis bids for corn delivered by barge to U.S. Gulf Coast terminals were narrowly mixed on Friday, underpinned by steady demand from exporters and a slow pace of farmer selling into Midwest grain terminals, while soybean barge bids were steady to slightly firmer, traders said.

• CIF Gulf corn barges loaded in May were bid at 64 cents over Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) July corn CN25 futures, down a penny from Thursday. June corn barges were bid at 66 cents over futures, up 1 cent.

• FOB export premiums for corn shipped from the Gulf in June were offered at about 76 cents over CBOT July corn futures, unchanged from Thursday.

• For soybeans, CIF Gulf barges loaded in May were bid at 62 cents over CBOT July SN25 soybean futures, unchanged from Thursday, while June soy barges were bid at 66 cents over futures, up a penny.

• FOB export premiums for soybeans loaded from the Gulf in June were offered steady at about 77 cents over July soybean futures.

• Rains in the U.S. Corn Belt are set to expand from Sunday through Wednesday to recharge soil moisture and aid crop growth, according to Commodity Weather Group. The U.S. corn crop was 62% planted and soybeans were 48% planted as of May 11, the U.S. Department of Agriculture said this week

• In global news, Ukraine rallied support from its Western allies after Kyiv and Moscow failed to agree to a ceasefire at their first direct talks in more than three years, with Russia presenting conditions that a Ukrainian source described as "non-starters". Both countries are significant grain exporters.
