US Cash Grains-Spot corn basis mixed, soybean basis steady to down

ReutersMay 9, 2025 4:55 PM

- Spot basis bids for corn were mixed at U.S. Midwest elevators and processors on Friday, while basis bids for soybeans were steady to down at processors.

  • The corn basis fell by 2 cents a bushel at a processor in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and also rose by 2 cents at an elevator in Blair, Nebraska.

  • A soy processor in Decatur, Illinois, dropped its spot basis bid by 4 cents a bushel.

  • Other elevators, processors, ethanol plants and river terminals were unchanged in a spot check.

  • Farmers are busy with spring field work, with active planting underway in the heart of the U.S. Midwest farm belt and drier weather providing favorable conditions, according to Commodity Weather Group.

  • On the Chicago Board of Trade, benchmark July corn futures CN25 were up 1-3/4 cents at $4.49-1/4 a bushel at midmorning on Friday, while July soybeans SN25 were up 11-1/2 cents at $10.56-1/2 a bushel.
