CHICAGO, May 8 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were steady to higher at U.S. Midwest ethanol plants on Thursday and mostly unchanged at interior and river elevators and at other processors, grain merchants said.
Spot soybean basis bids were mostly steady to firmer at crush plants, flat to lower at river terminals and mostly unchanged at interior elevators.
The corn basis rose by 3 cents a bushel at an ethanol plant in Union City, Indiana, and by 2 cents at an ethanol facility in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
A soy processor in Decatur, Indiana, raised its spot basis bid by 5 cents a bushel.
Farmer sales of both commodities were generally slow on Thursday as corn futures fell to a multi-month low and soybean futures prices hovered near recent lows.
Growers are busy with spring field work, with active planting underway in the heart of the U.S. Midwest farm belt amid mostly favorable weather.
On the Chicago Board of Trade, benchmark July corn futures CN25 were down 6-3/4 cents at $4.42-1/2 a bushel at midmorning on Thursday, while July soybeans SN25 were up 2-3/4 cents at $10.42 a bushel. GRA/
