CHICAGO, May 5 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for corn were up at ethanol plants in the U.S. Midwest on Monday with dealers trying to spur selling from farmers who have been busy with spring planting.
The corn basis rose at ethanol plants in Union City, Indiana and Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The soy basis fell at an elevator in Cincinnati, Ohio and was unchanged everywhere else in a spot check.
Chicago soybean futures fell as traders awaited updates on possible U.S.- China trade talks amid mounting competition from Brazil, according to analysts.
Corn futures fell on expectations that the U.S. Department of Agriculture will report quick planting progress in its weekly crop progress report, due out later on Monday.
Traders are worried that U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed cuts to the Environmental Protection Agency will decrease demand for biofuels produced with soy and other vegetable oils.
Chicago Board of Trade July soybean futures SN25 were down 11-1/4 cents to $10.46-3/4 per bushel at 11:49 a.m. CST (1649 GMT)
CBOT July corn CN25 was down 13-3/4 cents to $4.55-1/4 per bushel.
