US Plains HRW Wheat-Farmers delay sales while waiting for rain

ReutersApr 16, 2025 6:10 PM

- Spot basis bids for hard red winter (HRW) wheat remained mostly steady in the southern U.S. Plains on Wednesday as farmer selling was minimal, dealers said.

Farmers are holding off on booking advance sales of the upcoming harvest because of uncertainty over whether rains will arrive to ease harmful dryness, dealers said.

Warm, dry conditions were further reducing soil moisture in the Plains on Wednesday, according to a daily U.S. Department of Agriculture weather report. Rains are expected this weekend in the region.

K.C. May hard red winter wheat futures KWK25 were up 6 cents at $5.59 a bushel by 12:55 p.m. CDT (1755 GMT).
