CHICAGO, April 14 (Reuters) - Spot basis bids for soybeans were flat to higher at Midwestern river terminals and grain elevators, spot checks showed on Monday.
Farmer selling is expected to be slow this week, keeping basis firm, as farmers take advantage of mostly dry weather to plant soy and corn crops, traders said.
Planting has just begun in Midwestern states including Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture data issued on Monday. Nationally, 2% of the soy crop and 4% of corn were planted as of Sunday.
Chicago Board of Trade soybean futures closed mixed, with nearby contracts ending lower on profit-taking while deferred, new-crop contracts firmed a bit.
