Maine sues over USDA pause on funds over support for transgender athletes

April 7 (Reuters) - The state of Maine on Monday filed a lawsuit challenging the U.S. Department of Agriculture's decision to withhold federal funds used to feed school children over the state's refusal to ban transgender women from sports.
Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey, a Democrat, filed the lawsuit a week after President Donald Trump's administration announced the freeze. His administration has taken aim at Maine after a dispute between Trump and Democratic Governor Janet Mills over the inclusion of transgender athletes in sports.
