April 2 - (The Insurer) - Florida-based nonprofit the Climate Adaptation Center (CAC) has released an early forecast of the 2025 Atlantic hurricane season, predicting 10 hurricanes and five major hurricanes.
"We are predicting another active year, with only a slight decrease in the number of named storms and hurricanes compared to 2024 - and the same number of major hurricanes," CAC said.
CAC predicted 17 named storms and 10 hurricanes for the 2025 season, compared to the 18 named storms and 11 hurricanes that occurred last year. It said its prediction of five major hurricanes matches the outcome of the 2024 season.
The organisation highlighted rapid intensification as a major risk for this year's season, while describing a major hurricane strike on a population centre during mid-summer as a serious concern.
Between 2015 and 2024, Atlantic hurricane seasons have averaged 17.9 tropical storms, 8.2 hurricanes and 3.8 major hurricanes per year, CAC said.
